SYNOPSIS

Spring 1945 and the German resistance collapses. With their Nazi parents imprisoned by Allied forces, abandoned to an uncertain fate, 14 year old Lore takes charge of her young siblings, trying to navigate them across a devastated country, that is now divided into four occupation zones.
As days turn into weeks, they meet Thomas, an emaciated Jewish refugee with an uncertain past. He follows the children through forest and field, and slowly - with a mixture of persistence and unsettling kindness - finally works himself into their confidence. Set against the aftermath of war, LORE is a haunting road movie through the wilderness of shattered ideals; a hypnotic vision of sexual awakening rigorously unsentimental yet of raw emotional power.
From the director of SOMERSAULT.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT CATE SHORTLAND

When I first read the novel LORE by Rachel Seiffert, I felt it spoke to me on several levels right away. I loved the eeriness of the story, how these children wander the ghostly postwar landscape on their own. Most of all, I was fascinated by the interior landscape of the protagonist. Lore is a character who will go from a point of rock-solid conviction to the point of all-consuming doubt. The film's very physical story thrives on its captivating simplicity: the kids need to get from point A to point B. The themes of this material, however, are infinitely more complex. It's about guilt and responsibility, including what it means to be the children of criminals. Lore has grown up into one of the cruelest ideologies in history; and like most of us, she doesn't stand up for the weak, she remains silent. We tell of a girl struggling with her own ideals, no longer knowing where or to whom she belongs, now that everything she believed in has collapsed. In the end, she is full of questions. Questions she knows some can never be answered. And behind her seemingly calm facade, I think there's an unbridled rage.It is fundamentally important to me that there is something unmistakably contemporary about the film. It does not speak to the past, but seeks a dialogue with the present.

The Playmaker is thrilled to announce the successful closure of several significant distribution deals bringing Two to One to audiences in France (KMBO), Spain (A Contracorriente), Australia (Madman) and Greece (Rosebud).
Short Synopsis:
In „Two to One,“ a group of clever East-Germans seizes the chaotic post-GDR era in 1990 to retrieve hidden millions from an underground vault. As they outsmart formidable opponents, the heist takes an unexpected turn when money officially unrecognized in the GDR circulates.
Featuring the 2024 Academy Award-nominated Sandra Hüller („Anatomy of a Fall“, „Toni Erdmann“), alongside Max Riemelt („Sense 8“) and Ronald Zehrfeld („Barbara“, „Phoenix“), this historical comedy, based on a true story set in the GDR, promises laughs, unexpected twists, and brilliant performances. From the producers of „Three days in Quiberon“, „Lunchbox“, „War Sailor“, and “Human Factors”, Two to One is a must-watch.
